Copy of the back of my Voter's Registration form. Added to article 9/30/2012
Actually, my son caught this one.
I filled out my Voter's Registration Form just now after finding out I was put on the inactive list - at what point, I don't know. I only received the official, cardboard-like form earlier this week, along with the absentee ballot request form.
I filled both out after calling the Secretary of State's office.
See, Iowa doesn't have any protection mechanism in its VR laws to protect people who are the victims, or potential victims, of domestic violence. The Iowa voter rolls, as is the case in other states, are available for public scrutiny. So domestic violence victims, those who may be victims of stalkers, or other potential abuse after they leave a bad situation, have no protection to keep their locations confidential if they want to register to vote. This is an issue I've been bringing up since 2005, when I arrived here.
The only way to protect the physical location information in Iowa is to list your address as "general delivery" and/or describe some landmark building near which you really live, so as to determine your voter precinct. There is a precinct that handles "general delivery" registrations that includes the Post Office.
But the laws do not specifically state that this is the way this voting group is specifically supposed to register to vote. It's just 'understood' that this is the procedure. Everyone on here is astute enough that I don't have to go into why this can be a potential problem in a close election, a potential problem for any given voter, or how this could be used to claim that there is voter fraud in Iowa by current Republicans, especially in light of the two 'emergency rules' adopted by the Secretary of State in late July, without vetting or vote on the changes.
So, I completed the form and taped it up, as per instructions, stamped it, and handed it to my son.
He pointed out what was on the reverse side of that registration form and I thought I would share it with everyone on Newsvine. He is mailing a copy of the following to the IDP at this writing:
^PLEASE FOLD ALONG DOTTED LINE AND TAPE TO SEAL CLOSED^
Some blank space on the left half, a man in a suit carrying what looks to be a a box of files and envelopes on the right side.
Iowa's middle-class families
are searching for answers.
- Americans out of work
- Middle-class families struggling
- The debt growing
The Democrats keep spending, raising
taxes, and killing jobs while middle-class families suffer...
And believe it or not, no one called the Iowa Democratic Party to point this out to anyone until I did, according to the person I contacted.
Iowa's Governor and House are Republican (by 20 seats). Its Senate is Democrat (by 2 seats).
If someone knows how I can scan this printer copy into a JPG and post it on Vine in this article, please let me know. I made an extra.
